Welcome to the MGMC Fraternity. By enrolling under this, you become a part of the alumnus of the noble fortress of learning, The Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute. This is a forum for every member to render a helping hand to his/her fellow members, the Alma Mater and the Humanity at large.
We have a long way to achieve maturity. As a toddler, we thrive forward to achieve our milestones. Now on, it is our common aim to take this association to heights of fame and perfection. I on behalf of the senate, request every one of you to set aside a little time from your busy schedule to nurture this association. I would also like you to update us the Change of address as and when you change residence or at least once in a year.
It would be my pleasure to brief you upon how we came into existence and the other prime milestones.
The idea of starting an Alumni association was sowed by the Director, Dr. James. J. Gnanadoss on the Trailblazer’s Gratitude day party on 5-August-06. It took nearly 5 months since the idea sprouted out for us to assimilate the requirements and the personnel to start working for the achievement of the dream.
In January 2007, a body by name “The Panel on Constitution and Bylaws” was constituted. The panel worked under the guidance of the then Dean, Dr (Col) A.L. Sharma.
The Panel on Constitution and Bylaws completed the task on March 1st 2007 and the Constitution was put for ratification in The Guild (general body) meeting on the 2nd week of March. The Director, Dr.James .J .Gnanadoss, Ex Dean Dr. (Col) A.L Sharma and Addnl Dean, Dr.S.R.Smile graced the meet with their presence and guidance. Before conclusion of the meet an “Election Commission” was elected.
On 26-march 2007 in Presence of Director Dr.James .J .Gnanadoss, Ex Dean Dr. (Col) A.L Sharma and Dr S.R.Smile (Addnl Dean), The Election Commissioner announced the election results in The Guild (General Body) meet. Then The President Dr.Bhairava Swamy K took over the proceedings of the Fraternity from the Panel on Constitution and Bylaws.
July 27th 2007, the Fraternity received the Certificate of registration under the Societies Registration Act, Govt of Pondicherry.
As the senators felt the need for a forum for disseminating information, the Idea of owning a website budded. The work of the Fraternity website was started on the 02-05-2007. The Domain name “mgmcfraternity.org” was passed with majority votes of the senate. The website design was completed by 2nd week of August. The website communicates the Campus and Fraternity news to its members. The Fraternity also uses a social networking website “ ORKUT” for the members to interact. The fraternity also has a blog link that will help disseminate Study materials and Career opportunities to Students of MGMCRI and Fraternity Members under the title “ M.B.,B.S and Beyond”. The News page of the Website has a “Message box” through which, anyone can quickly get in touch with the Senate. The Fraternity plans to update the site once in 3 months. Updating to a dynamic website will be considered as the treasury permits.
One of the main agenda of the Fraternity was to prepare a Directory of Members for distribution among the members. The work of the Fraternity Directory was started on 15 July 2007.The team successfully completed the task on 25th August. The directory contains the contacts of all its members. The Directory was issued to all the Members on the 24th August 2007. The Directory will be updated yearly as and when a new batch gets enrolled. An Electronic Version of the Directory is also available for download to all the members online.
The Fraternity was officially announced functioning on the 16th of August 2007. And all the members of the outgoing batch (the batch of 2001) were enrolled. The fraternity fund was derived from the Enrollment Fee charged from all the members.
On 24th August, the day before The Graduation Day-2007 The Synapsis (Annual General Body Meet) was inaugurated by Dr.D.S.Dubey(Advisor), Dr.James.J.Gnanadoss (Director), Dr.(Col)A.L.Sharma (Ex Dean), Dr.K.R.Thiyagarajan(M.S) and Dr.S.R.Smile(Addl Dean). Venue was Lecture Hall-I MGMCRI.
The Fraternity CME program succeeded the inaugural ceremony on the 24th August. The CME program was organized under the guidance of Dr .V. Mahalakshmi (Secretary of The Scientific and Academic Forum). 6 scientific topics of day to day importance were discussed by 6 esteemed member speakers: Dr.Padmani, Dr.K Ragunath, Dr.Arthi P, Dr.Prema, Dr.Devan and Dr.Archa Sharma. The forum was chaired by Fraternity Members: Dr.Devi J, Dr.Bhairava Swamy K, Dr.Nitty S Mathews and Dr.CH. Lakshmi Sowjanya.
The Synapsis Dinner was organized at Ananda Inn, Pondicherry on 26 August 2008. The chief guests of the evening were Dr. James J Gnanadoss(Director),Dr.D. S. Dubey (Advisor), Dr.(Col) AL Sharma(Ex Dean), Dr S.R Smile and Dr.K.R Thiyagarajan(M.S).During the meet, The Fraternity Website was launched by the Director. The Fraternity Directory was released by The Advisor. The electronic format of the Directory was released by the Ex Dean. The meeting concluded with a grand dinner.
During the dinner the General body accepted on The Senates plan of sponsoring the “Best All Rounder Medal” of Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute from the year 2008.
Other Aims that the Fraternity will be achieving shortly are,
1. Provide help and any other type of assistance to the members of THE FRATERNITY
2. Organize Welfare Services for its members, M.G.M.C.R.I students and humanity at large
3. Conduct academic activities and to award prizes for excellent work done in the medical field and/or social sphere.
4. Work towards improvement of medical education and health care services.
5. Organise Medical Camps and sponsor the cost of medical care for the poor and down-trodden.
